HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 cc227-8W
48. Mr. George Jeger

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he has approved the arrangements being made by the Central Electricity Generating Board for the disposal of pulverised fuel ash from Drax power station; and what reply he has sent to the representation by Thorne Rural District Council objecting to the dumping of ash in its area.

Mr. Skeffington

No. The Board originally made application for planning permission to dispose of the ash at Burn Airfield. My right hon. Friend postponed a decision on that application because he wished the Board to investigate the suitability of alternative sites mentioned at the public inquiry. He is awaiting the results of that investigation.

Thorne Rural District Council has been told that any application for planning permission to dispose of ash in its area would be subject to the usual processes of advertisement, objection and, if necessary, public inquiry.
