HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 c247W
70. Mr. Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Overseas Development why the Central Office of Information did not arrange during their visit to the United Kingdom for Dr. Ortiz Mendes and Dr. Cardona from Colombia either to meet Dr. G. R. Dickson, the author of the Report on the Agriculture of the Andean Chain, who had originally suggested that this invitation to visit the United Kingdom should be extended to these gentlemen, or the British Agricultural Export Council who were in part responsible for Dr. Dickson's journey to South America.

Mr. Oram

The programme for the visit was drawn up by my Department and the arrangements were made by the Central Office of Information.

The Colombians' stay in the United Kingdom was much shorter than originally planned. Consequently there was not time to fit in all they wanted to do and the visits had to be confined to those people and places, mostly outside London, in which they had expressed the greatest interest, especially agricultural research institutions.
