HC Deb 12 June 1969 vol 784 cc286-7W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has reached a decision about the establishment of a National Film School; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Jennie Lee

The Government has accepted the recommendation of the Lloyd Committee that an independent National Film School should be set up. I have decided to appoint a Planning Committee, under the chairmanship of Lord Lloyd, to supervise the establishment of the School. The names of the other members of the Committee will be announced later.

The terms of reference of the Committee will be:

"To advise the Secretary of State for Education and Science on the steps to be taken for the establishment of a National Film School, with particular reference to the constitution of the School, its location, buildings and equipment, its staff and its courses of training."

A site to which close preliminary attention has been given is Beaconsfield Film, Studios, but it will be for the Committee to make a final recommendation.
