HC Deb 12 June 1969 vol 784 cc296-7W
Mr. George Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on the new Constitution for Gibraltar.

Mr. Whitlock

The Order in Council containing the new constitution was published in Gibraltar on 30th May and copies have been placed in the Library of the House.

The constitution entails no change in the international status of Gibraltar. It provides for the devolution of a greater degree of responsibility in domestic matters to Gibraltar Ministers and for replacing the City Council and the Legislative Council by a single House of Assembly with fifteen elected members.
