HC Deb 12 June 1969 vol 784 cc300-1W
Q7. Mr. Biffen

asked the Prime Minister what consultations he proposes to have with the Prime Ministers of European Free Trade Association countries, in view of the Government's application to join the Common Market and the changed political circumstances in France and Germany.

Q10. Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Prime Minister if he will seek to convene an early meeting of European Free Trade Association Prime Ministers to discuss member countries' applications to join.

The Prime Minister

Apart from my visit to Sweden next month, I have no plans at present to enter into consultations with the Prime Ministers of the European Free Trade Association countries. My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade attended a Ministerial meeting of E.F.T.A. on 8th and 9th May. This meeting agreed that it was too early to assess the effects of the changed political situation in Europe. There will be a further Ministerial meeting of E.F.T.A. in November.
