asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of the £990,634 spent on modernising the sugar beet factory at Cupar between the year ended 31st March, 1959, and the year ended 30th September, 1968, was incurred in order to improve the efficiency of the intake of beet to the factory.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money has been spent in the last 10 years at the Cupar sugar factory in providing bulk storage for the sugar produced at the factory.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the expenditure required on modernising the sugar beet factory at Cupar, to keep it working at its maximum capacity for the next ten years, and of the principal items in this expenditure.

I am advised by the British Sugar Corporation that the expenditure required to keep Cupar operative for the foreseeable future is £1.7 million. The detailed breakdown of this figure is a matter for the corporation.
