§ Mr. Tilneyasked the Minister for the Civil Service what studies the Management Services Division of his Department and formerly of the treasury has made into the cost effectiveness of microfilming operations in Government Departments; and whether he will estimate the average cost per frame or roll of microfilming in both 16 millimetre and 35 millimetre sizes.
§ Mrs. HartThe cost per frame of microfilming depends upon a number of variable factors, and each suggested application in the Civil Service is the subject of careful study by Management Services staff of the Civil Service Department, or of other Departments involved.
The direct cost including allowances for salaries, materials, depreciation and maintenance of equipment etc. of producing microcopies varies from about ⅓rd of a 1d. per document in the simplest cases, to 5d. a frame or more in special cases.
