HC Deb 25 July 1969 vol 787 cc550-1W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if he will give an undertaking that the proposed establishment of the new centre will not have the effect of cutting back the activities of the Centre for Educational Television Overseas.

Mr. Prentice

In replying to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Eton and Slough (Miss Lestor) on 30th June, I said that the new centre will deal with all matters concerning curriculum reform and new teaching techniques, which include the use of television and sound broadcasting. It will thus be concerned with the whole field of activity in which the present Centre for Educational Television Overseas has been such a successful pioneer. The balance of activity in the centre as a whole will be a question for the board of management, and in the light of all the studies which have led to the creation of the new centre it seems probable that there may well be some changes in emphasis. But I am confident that the board will wish to build to the fullest possible extent on the experience gained by the Centre for Educational Television Overseas.—[Vol. 786, c. 9.]
