HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 cc431-3W
70. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give the names of the proposed new junior and primary schools scheduled for the Mexborough and District, and the Staincross Divisional Education areas, which were included in the school building programme for the years 1966–67, 1967–68, 1968–69 and 1969–70, respectively; and why the date of the commencement of building of some of these schools has been deferred for an indefinite period.

Miss Bacon

The following are the twelve schools concerned. Eleven of them were not deferred or are in programmes not later than that of the current year. The twelfth is currently under review. Circulars 6/68 and 13/68, of which I am sending copies to my hon. Friend, explain the general reasons for the deferment of certain projects in the programmes in question.

Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give the names of the new schools which are included in the present five-year building programme in the Mexborough and Staincross Divisional Education areas, and also the schools that may be included in the following five-year building programme.

Miss Bacon

My right hon. Friend is at present examining the West Riding Authority's proposals for a Preliminary List of projects which may be needed by September, 1973. He has not yet made decisions on those proposals and it is too soon to consider any for later years.

Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to ensure that the new school to replace the Fitzwilliam County Primary School, Swinton, Mexborough, will be included in the 1969–70 school building programme.

Miss Bacon

No. The programme for 1969–70 is already settled. No proposal for the replacement of this school has been submitted by the authority for that programme or for subsequent ones.
