HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 c440W
76. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that many motor cars have loud horns resembling those on police cars and police ambulances thereby causing traffic confusion and impeding and delaying police and ambulances in their progress to the scene of accidents and to hospitals; and if he will now prohibit by regulations the use of such horns on private vehicles in the interest of public safety.

Mr. Carmichael

The Construction and Use Regulations permit emergency vehicles to carry and use a two-tone horn. No other vehicles may fit any apparatus capable of making a sound similar to the two-tone horn. I am not aware that these regulations are being contravened to any serious extent.
