HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 cc439-40W
74. Mr. Tilney

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will introduce legislation to remove any doubt that invalid three-wheelers are not subject to the speed limits laid down for invalid carriages of 20 miles per hour unless they are less than five hundredweight unladen weight, but qualify as ordinary motor cars as regards speed limits.

Mr. Marsh

Further legislation is unnecessary.

The Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1967, defines the "invalid carriage" on which it imposes the 20 m.p.h. speed limit in terms which expressly include only invalid vehicles not exceeding 5 cwt. unladen weight.

The heavier invalid three-wheelers now widely used attract only the speed limits applicable to the road they are on, in the same way as private cars and motor cycles.
