HC Deb 30 January 1969 vol 776 cc357-8W
Mr. Hordern

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the estimated figures for road expenditure for 1968–69, 1969–70 and 1970–71 on the same basis as in Table 3 in Appendix 2 of his Department's recent Report entitled "Roads in England".

Mr. George Thomas

For 1968–69 the estimated expenditure is:

From Central Funds From Local Authority Funds Total
£m. £m. £m.
New Construction and Improvement:
Trunk 8.4 8.4
Principal 3.7 1.0 4.7
Non-Principal 0.6 3.0 3.6
Total 12.7 4.0 16.7
Maintenance:
Trunk 1.7 1.7
Principal 0.3 2.3 2.6
Non-Principal 0.7 10.2 10.9
Total 2.7 12.5 15.2
Combined Total 15.4 16.5 31.9

These figures include extra work authorised to reduce winter unemployment.

Detailed figures for 1969–70 will not be available until the Civil Estimates are published: but for comparison the total estimate is likely to be about £30 million. At this stage it is not possible to give a reliable figure for 1970–71.
