§ Mr. Moyleasked the Secretary of State for Defence what savings, by comparison with the defence programme in 1964, is represented by the recently published defence budget estimate for 1969–70 and by the estimates for the year 1965–66 to 1968–69.
§ Mr. HealeyAs I reported to the House on 27th November, 1967, the Defence Budget Estimates for the years 1965–66 to 1968–69 inclusive represented a reduction of £1,200 million on the defence programme planned and costed by my predecessor. Revalued to 1969–70 Estimates prices, and including the 1969–70 Budget Estimates, the aggregate saving is about £2,040 million. Details of the figures are given in the table below:
