§ LORD STONHAMThe strength of provincial police forces on 31st December, 1968, was 70,306; that of the Metropolitan Police 20,476. Total recruitment into the Service during 1968 was 5,480 men and 634 women; total wastage was 5,273 and 702 respectively.
