What was the expenditure on new prison buildings for the accommodation of prisoners during 1968.

LORD STONHAM

It is estimated that in 1968–69 the total capital expenditure on buildings for the Prison Service in England and Wales will be £6–8 million, including £3.31 million for additional accommodation and improvements to existing accommodation for inmates at prisons, borstals and detention centres. The corresponding figures for 1967–68 were £5.2 million and £3.01 million.

Page 13 of Command 3107 of October, 1966; will give as much information as is readily available about recruitment and wastage since 1965 and will distinguish in those latter figures between qualified and untrained officers.
