HC Deb 26 February 1969 vol 778 cc313-4W
Mr. Alison

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the monthly trade balance with United States military aircraft imports included in the import figure on the same basis as other imports;

(2) if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the monthly value of imports of United States military aircraft which are financed by the special credit from the Export-Import Bank of New York, on a freight on board basis.

Mr. Dell

No. Extensive information relating to these aircraft is already published. The visible trade balance is not calculated including imports of these aircraft, or the exports of British engines for them. Figures for the visible balance, however, which take into account payments for these aircraft, together with figures of payments, are published quarterly in the balance of payments statistics in "Economic Trends". I see no advantage in publishing estimates on a f.o.b. basis; but monthly figures of imports of the aircraft on a c.i.f. basis, may be derived from tables issued with the monthly trade figures.
