§ Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the President of the Board of Trade what has been the effect of import deposits on the prices of chipboard, plywood and hardboard; what plans he has to promote the increased production of these essential materials in this country; and whether he will, until such supplies are available in sufficient quantity, exempt these materials from import deposits, which are generally required in the trade as raw materials.
§ Mr. DellIt is not possible to isloate effects of the import deposits but there are some indications of increases in prices of these products since November, 1968. The various forms of Government assistance to industry are of course available to domestic manufacturers of these products. Non-availability from domestic sources is not a criterion for exemption from import deposit.
