HC Deb 26 February 1969 vol 778 c307W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy regarding help given to pupils suffering from dyslexia.

Mr. Ross

Education authorities are encouraged to help children with reading difficulties in every possible way, whether or not these difficulties are associated with dyslexia, a condition about which there is some controversy. Such children can be helped in a number of ways within the ordinary school and special school systems and by child guidance services provided by education authorities. Strathclyde University expect to complete shortly their report on a study of specific reading disability which I commissioned them to undertake. I hope that this report will shed light on this difficult educational problem.
