HC Deb 20 February 1969 vol 778 c141W
58. Mr. Driberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will amend Prison Standing Orders 3(f)(1), under which any justice of the peace and the bishop of the diocese in which a prison is situated are allowed to enter a prison at any time without authority from the Home Office or the governor, on satisfying the gatekeeper of their identity, so that the Member of Parliament for the constituency in which a prison is situated may have a similar right.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

A governor has standing authority to admit at all reasonable times to view his prison the Member of Parliament for the constituency in which the prison is situated.
