HC Deb 17 February 1969 vol 778 c53W
Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Postmaster-General how many persons have a licence from the Post Office to operate radio-controlled model boats; what is the total revenue from these licences; and how much is spent by the Post Office in detecting persons operating without a licence.

Mr. Stonehouse

There are 15,261 licences in force to use radio for controlling the movement of model vehicles, vessels or aircraft. The total yearly revenue from them is about £3,160. It is not known how many of these licensees operate model boats only. My inquiry officers have a general duty to watch for and inquire into unlicensed use of radio: I have no figures to show what proportion of their time is taken up by inquiries into the unlicensed use of radio for controlling models.
