Mr. Prior

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will now give a revised date for the commencement of work on the replacement for the Lowestoft swing bridge.

Mr. Marsh

Alternative methods of accelerating the start and date of completion of works on the new bridge are still under discussion with the consulting engineers.

I will write to the hon. Member as soon as a reasonably firm timetable is available.

asked the Minister of Transport what plans have been drawn up for a high level bridge to cross the inner harbour at Lowestoft; and when he expects to include this in the road programme in view of the incapacity of the other two bridges to take the traffic.

Mr. Marsh

The proposal for a high bridge appears in the Second Quinquennial Review of Lowestoft Town Map which has yet to be approved.

It is not possible at this stage to forecast if and when the scheme will be programmed.
