§ Mr. David Howellasked the Minister of Transport whether he will now give permission for two X-way crossings to be installed in the Epsom Road, Guildford.
Mr. Bob BrownEpsom Road is a principal road. The question of pedestrian crossings is, therefore, a matter in the first instance for Guildford Borough Council. If it considers there is a need for signal controlled crossings here it will no doubt submit an application to the divisional road engineer. No such application has yet been received.

§ Mr. MarshThe X-way experiment has been completed. As I have already announced, I have decided, in the light of the experiment, to introduce a new and simpler push-button controlled pedestrian crossing to be known as the Pelican. I have issued a circular to local authorities giving details of the new crossing and I will send the hon. Member a copy.
