HC Deb 14 February 1969 vol 777 c408W
Mr. Waddington

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Tunisian Government with regard to compensation for British citizens whose lands were expropriated in 1964; and with what result.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

The latest occasion on which this question was raised with the Tunisian Government at a Ministerial level was in October, 1968, when I visited Tunisia. I received an assurance from the Minister concerned that the Tunisian Government would be happy to examine the cases of those claimants ready to accept settlement in local currency and to settle these claims quickly. I regret that there has been no progress since then. Her Majesty's Ambassador is being instructed to take the matter up at a high level.
