HC Deb 12 February 1969 vol 777 cc331-2W
113. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in view of the fact that prices to milk producers in Orkney and Shetland are now consistently lower than those generally payable throughout the Northern area, what steps are being taken to maintain the income of dairy farmers.

Mr. Ross

Under the North of Scotland Milk Marketing Scheme different producer prices have been prescribed for the mainland and for Orkney. The Orkney differential has recently been increased because of higher surplus there. Any amendments to the Scheme would be a matter for the producers themselves.

Shetland is not subject to a milk marketing scheme and milk prices there are uncontrolled.
