Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what grounds the licence fee for the storage of petroleum spirit was increased by 400 per cent. under the Miscellaneous Fees Variation Order, 1968; and whether this increase was referred to the National Board for Prices and Incomes before it was implemented.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe fee was increased to cover higher administration costs and the fall in the value of money since it was originally fixed 40 years ago. It is not a charge for goods or the performance of a service within the terms of the Prices and Incomes Act, 1966.
