Bossomasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated revenue to be obtained from the tax on fuel used by motor vehicles in the year ending 31st March, 1970 at the current rate of the tax; and by how much this exceeds the estimated revenue from this source during the year ending 31st March, 1969.
§ Mr. Harold LeverEstimates of revenue for the year ending 31st March, 1970, will be published at the time of the Budget, based on figures of out-turn for the current financial year which are not at present available.
§ Mr. Kelleyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the amount of an increase in the tax on motor spirit needed to raise a sum equal to the revenue derived from the taxation of motor vehicles.
§ Mr. Harold LeverTo produce extra revenue equal to the yield of the motor vehicle Excise licence duties, the rate of duty on petrol and heavy oil used in road vehicles would need to be increased by at least 1s. 8d. a gallon.
