HC Deb 11 February 1969 vol 777 cc272-3W
73. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchaquer whether, in view of the increases in bank profits for 1968, he will take steps to require banks to disclose in future the full extent of their profits including the sums allocated to reserve; and whether he will take steps to compulsorily restrict credit for those seeking it for any enterprise which does not contribute to the advantage of the community.

Mr. Harold Lever

The first part of this Question is a matter for my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade.

On the second part, I do not think that compulsory restriction of credit extended to particular borrowers would be either practicable or desirable.
