§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he has taken or plans to take to expedite replies by his Department to letters from Members of Parliament, in view of the fact that it is now taking between five and 10 weeks for replies to be given to correspondence compared with two to three weeks a few years ago.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsI am satisfied that hon. Members' letters are answered as promptly as can be consistent with a proper examination of the matters raised in the letters. This is bound to take time when the letters relate to an individual's tax affairs.
