HC Deb 11 February 1969 vol 777 cc301-2W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Minister of Transport if he will list the yearly total of money from public funds allocated to the Port of Bristol Authority for port developments for the years 1945 onwards.

Mr. Marsh

Under the powers conferred by the Harbours Act, 1964, grants have been issued to the Port of Bristol Authority totalling £115,415 in 1967, £122,621 in 1968 and £14,582 in 1969.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Minister of Transport if he will list the names of licensed stevedoring firms in the Bristol and Avonmouth Docks showing the total number of dockworkers employed in each case and indicating the numbers employed in stevedoring, wharf-operating, lighterage and towage, respectively.

Mr. Marsh

I am informed by the Port of Bristol Authority, which is the licensing authority for the port, that the following are the employers granted general stevedoring licences by it under the Docks and Harbours Act, 1966:

No. of Registered dockworkers employed
Reed, Stock & Co. Ltd. 422
C. J. King & Son Ltd 244
Bristol Stevedores Ltd 114

All these dockworkers are employed on stevedoring but under the Dock Labour Scheme may be engaged on other kinds of dock work.

In addition the Port of Bristol Authority employs 804 registered dock-workers, all of whom may be called upon to carry out various kinds of dock work.
