asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further steps he is taking to get British ships and their crews imprisoned in the Canal Zone released, following the recent official visit to Cairo of the Minister of State.

My right hon. Friend the Minister of State raised the subject of the blocked ships with President Nasser and with the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Republic. We shall continue to work for the early release of the blocked ships. The skeleton crews are, of course, not imprisoned; they are replaced at regular intervals.
