§ Mr. George Wallaceasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what were the total grants towards relief of rates made to the city and county of Norwich for the years 1962 to 1964 and 1966 to 1968.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonThe amounts of grants in aid of the revenue expenditure of the Norwich County Borough Council were as follows:
beginning 20th January; why no warning of any prolonged disconnection was given; and why no information was given to those who inquired as to the reason for the prolonged disconnection.
§ Mr. Joseph SlaterWhenever possible, engineering works are arranged to avoid interrupting subscribers' services. Should more than short duration interruptions be unavoidable, subscribers are informed individually beforehand. In the period from July 1968, there have been no plant works in County Durham that justified approach to our customers. Moisture penetrating the sheaths of local cables interrupted the service of 30 Fence Houses subscribers for three days in August and 70 subscribers for three days in November. On 21st January this year, a cable failure caused loss of service to eight Fence Houses subscribers for a period of four days. It was unfortunate that this delay in repair occurred, but there were cable faults elsewhere in the area, not in Fence Houses, which affected larger 47W numbers of lines. The "number unobtainable" tone was connected to the faulty lines so that callers would be made aware that the lines were out of order. We normally write to subscribers if loss of service is likely to exceed four days.
