HC Deb 03 February 1969 vol 777 c5W
74. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport what reply he has sent to the letter of 12th December from the Aberdeen Trade Council about the implications of the proposed closure of Inverurie Railway Workshops; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carmichael

A reply sent by the Department on 20th December referred to the Adjournment debate on 18th December, when the implications of closure were fully discussed, and to the Railways Board's intention to consult the trade unions before coming to a decision.

I understand that the Board informed the unions on 22nd January that in its view closure was unavoidable. Before a final decision is taken by the Board there will be full consultation at a further meeting, when the Board will explain the position to the unions and hear their views.
