HC Deb 03 February 1969 vol 777 c4W
57. Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister of Transport if he will issue a general direction to British Railways that no original engineering drawings of historic interest, at present in its possession, shall be sent for sale by public auction until all appropriate British museums, institutions and educational establishments have been given an opportunity to acquire them for their collections.

Mr. Carmichael

No. We are satisfied that the provisions of Section 144 of the Transport Act, 1968, are adequate. Where items are not covered by these provisions, such as the drawings it is proposed to sell in the near future, the Railways Board tells us it will consider sympathetically any request from appropriate museums and the like for specific documents.
