§ 63. Mr. Crouchasked the Minister of Transport what progress is being made re garding the operation of British Railways' proposed advanced passenger train; what modifications are necessary to track and signalling; and whether such fast pas senger traffic will be required to be separated from all other rail traffic.
§ Mr. MarshBritish Railways is pushing on with development work. The advanced passenger train should be able to operate at up to 125 m.p.h. without major modifications to track and signalling. For higher speeds, some easing of curves and other modifications may eventually be worth while. Improved control and signalling systems would also then be needed. Segregation from other rail traffic will not be necessary.
