HC Deb 12 December 1969 vol 793 c189W
Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

asked the Attorney-General whether, in order to avoid omissions to inform intending purchasers of matters affecting the property but which are not compulsorily registrable, he will, after consultation with the local authorities' associations and the Law Society, undertake legislation to make all such matters compulsorily registrable and to terminate the present voluntary system.

The Attorney-General

A proposal of this kind was considered by the Stainton Committee on Local Land Charges and rejected in its report published in 1952 (Cmd. 8440, paragraphs 14–16). The Law Commission will be reconsidering local searches in its review of the law relating to the transfer of land, and any decision with regard to legislation on this subject should await its recommendations.
