Lancashire and Manchester (Primary School Classes)

Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many classes there were in primary schools in Lancashire and Manchester in January, 1969 and September, 1969; and how many of these had over 40 children.

The following is the information for January, 1969.

	Lancashire	Manchester
Number of primary school classes	7,669	1,912
Number of primary school classes with 40 or more pupils	1,185	219

Full information is not available for September, 1969 but I understand that in that month Manchester had 124 and Lancashire rather over 900 primary classes over 40.
