During the period 1st January, 1939, to 1st January, 1969, there were 49 executions as a result of sentences passed in accordance with the Service Discipline Acts; 48 of these were carried out overseas. The last in the Army was in 1953; the last in the R.A.F. in 1943; there have been no executions in the Royal Navy since 1860.
