HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 c80W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the increase in the number of cases of paintings and other works of art being sold at auctions for sums in excess of £100,000; and if he will seek to amend the provisions of the capital gains tax so that the rate of tax is increased on gains on works of art in excess of £20,000.

Mr. Taverne

I have noted my hon. Friend's suggestion.
