HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 c85W
Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Minister of Technology if he will make a statement on the supply of coking coal to the Scottish steel industry.

Mr. Harold Lever

Until recently Scottish steel works had been supplied exclusively with Scottish coking coal. However, the increase in demand and the slight in output of Scottish coking coal have led to some flow of English coking coal into Scotland, and this is expected to increase next year. The National Coal Board has had detailed discussions with the British Steel Corporation and is confident that it can continue to meet the corporation's requirements in Scotland.
