HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 cc111-2W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will advise the Lanarkshire Education Authority about the employment of auxiliary aides in schools in view of the shortage of teachers there; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

In April of this year my Department's Circular No. 714 reminded education authorities of the value of employing non-teaching staff with the aim of ensuring that teachers are fully occupied on professional duties. I understand that Lanarkshire Education Authority plans to start employing administrative assistants and laboratory assistants in its schools next month and to increase the number of clerical assistants.
