HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 cc337-8W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity, in view of the employment position in North Devon, if she will set up in North Devon a training centre to deal with the rising unemployment.

Mr. Dell

I have no present plans to set up a centre in North Devon. Such centres can only be established successfully in relatively large centres of population where there is a substantial and continuing local demand for training places, and sufficient employment opportunities for trainees who have completed their courses. Suitable men living in North Devon can he trained at Plymouth or at any of the 42 other Government training centres now in operation. Lodgings can be arranged where necessary.
