HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 c255W
70. Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will introduce legislation to increase the 30s. widow's pension.

Mr. Ennals

The great majority of 30s. widow pensioners will benefit substantially when the scaled-down widow's pensions contained in the Government new scheme proposals are introduced. At 30s. this pension is still well above its 1948 purchasing value. The poorest of these widows, those receiving supplementary benefit with the pension, and those drawing sickness or unemployment benefit, will have gained from the recent increases in those benefits.
