HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 c275W
Mr. Stodart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he gave an assurance to the National Farmers' Union of Scotland that the closing date for the receiving of sugar beet contracts would not be changed; if he has been informed of the decision of the British Sugar Corporation that the last day for receiving contracts will be Sunday, 30th November; and what action he intends to take.

Mr. Ross

I told the leaders of the Scottish N.F.U. on 7th October that the main arrangements, including the freight subvention and the acreage quota, would continue until the end of the 1971 season. As regards the closing date for beet contracts for the Cupar factory I have been informed by the British Sugar Corporation that for 1970 they will accept contracts up to 31st December instead of 30th November as previously announced.
