HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 cc246-7W
65. Mr. Tudor Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will make a statement on the future development of growth towns in Mid-Wales; with what authorities he has held discussions; and what representations he has received.

Mr. George Thomas

New advance factories in Mid-Wales will be concentrated mainly, but not exclusively, in the seven towns of Aberystwyth, Bala, Brecon, Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Rhayader and Welshpool. Other towns in Mid-Wales will continue to enjoy the full range of development area incentives and advance factories will be sited there when appropriate. The selection of the seven towns was made in consultation with the Mid-Wales Industrial Development Association (which comprises representatives of the five counties of Mid-Wales) and the Development Commission. Two local authorities have subsequently suggested that other towns should be included in the list.
