HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 c247W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many Welshmen have been promoted to supervisory grades in the Forestry Commission in Wales; and how many are being trained.

Mr. George Thomas

It is not the Forestry Commission's practice to promote industrial forest workers directly to the supervisory grades, in view of the need for technical training at the supervisory level. It is however open to forest workers aged 17–23, with certain basic educational qualifications, to apply for entry to a training school with a view to employment on successful completion of the course.

There is no recent record in Wales of any successful applications on this basis.

Two Welshman are at present in training at the Forestry Commission's schools.
