HC Deb 02 December 1969 vol 792 cc249-50W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Minister of Technology whether he will allocate an advance factory to the Towyn area to provide employment for the men declared redundant by the closure of Tonfannau Camp.

Mr. Varley

There are no present plans for an advance factory at Towyn, but the needs of the area will be borne in mind, together with those of the rest of the Welsh Development Area.

Mr. William Edwards

asked the Minister of Technology whether he will seek to establish an advance factory in Blaenau Ffestiniog in view of the decline of the slate industry, impending redundancies in other industries and the fact that this area has amongst the highest percentage of permanently unemployed men in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Varley

We are aware of the situation in Blaenau Ffestiniog, and the needs of the area will be considered in any future advance factory programme.
