HC Deb 24 April 1969 vol 782 c111W
52. Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the urgency disclosed in the correspondence sent to him by the hon. Member for Rye on 18th April, if he will now extend to 1st December, 1969, the coming into force of the Electrical Appliances (Colour Code) Regulations, 1969.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

These regulations provide that after 1st July, 1970, three-core flexes fitted to domestic electrical appliances offered for sale must be coloured in accordance with the new international code. Until that date, flexes in the old British Standard colours will also be permitted. The date for the final change has already been deferred once to meet the wishes of the trade, and it would not be in the interests of the safety of the public to defer it yet again.
