HC Deb 14 April 1969 vol 781 c226W
Mr. Alison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the loss to the revenue of married couples having the option of not aggregating their income for income tax and surtax purposes, but of being treated as two single persons, assuming that they only choose the option which is to their advantage.

Mr. Harold Lever

About £8 million if the option applied only to earnings.
