§ Mr. Hannanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of all hospital beds are occupied by mentally ill patients; and of these how many are alcoholics.
§ Mr. RossThe proportion of available staffed beds occupied by mentally ill patients at 30th September, 1968, was 32.6 per cent. I regret that figures are not available for the proportion of total bed accommodation occupied by alcoholic patients; admission figures do not indicate this because, on average, the length of stay of these patients is shorter than that of other mentally ill patients.
