HC Deb 03 April 1969 vol 781 cc162-3W
Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of all hospital beds are occupied by mentally ill patients; and of these how many are alcoholics.

Mr. Ross

The proportion of available staffed beds occupied by mentally ill patients at 30th September, 1968, was 32.6 per cent. I regret that figures are not available for the proportion of total bed accommodation occupied by alcoholic patients; admission figures do not indicate this because, on average, the length of stay of these patients is shorter than that of other mentally ill patients.
