§ Mr. Dribergasked the Minister of Transport how many reports on closures of branch lines and other matters of public dispute he has received from the East Anglian Transport Users Consultative Committee; and in how many of these cases the Committee has reported in a sense contrary to the proposals of British Rail.
§ Mr. MarshSince I appointed the present East Anglian Transport Users Consultative Committee on 1st March, 1967, it has reported to me under Section 56(9) of the Transport Act, 1962, in respect of five passenger closure proposals on the hardship which it considers would be caused by closure and, where appropriate, on ways of alleviating that hardship.
Area Committees in England do not report to me on quality of service questions. They may make recommendations on these matters to the Board concerned and to the Central Transport Consultative Committee, which in turn can make recommendations to me. I have received no such recommendations originating from the present East Anglian Committee.
